Do your jaws click when you open them wide? Do you have more than your fair share of headaches? Maybe shoulder, neck, or jaw pain slows your work productivity. If so, you may suffer from temporomandibular joint dysfunction, which is commonly called TMJ.
When the TMJ joints are out of alignment, nerves and muscles become irritated. This can cause a host of symptoms, from headaches and earaches to popping jaws and tingling fingers. Dr. Britton can determine whether TMJ dysfunction is the cause of your symptoms, then provide a custom oral appliance to reposition your jaw while you sleep. The oral appliance will also eliminate bruxism, or teeth grinding, often associated with TMJ dysfunction. To permanently alter the bite and make sure that the jaws stay in their best position, Dr. Britton may recommend restoring teeth with composites, crowns, or repositioning with orthodontics. Visit our patient library for more information on TMJ dysfunction.
